I Thought I Made Myself Very Clear...

So Dan and I share a Facebook page. He keeps suggesting that we have our own. After the recent confusion with birthday greetings on HIS birthday, I'm starting to think it might be a good idea. After reviewing these comments from Facebook, let me know what you think...(Names have been eliminated to protect the innocent, and unobservant. Repeated messages are just as they appeared on FB.)
  • Dear Dan: "Tomorrow is a special day, it's birthday time for you. I'm really glad to celebrate your happy day with you! Zip-a-dee-ay and heigh-dee-ho Here's something I can do. I'll sing a song that we all know, Happy Birthday to YOU!" Love, JaNae (Message I put on our status the day before Dan's birthday with the intent to make it clear it was Dan's birthday.)
  • Happy Birthday Danno!!!
  • HB good buddy....dang...you're gettin old!
  • Happy Birthday from the land of ice and snow.
  • Enjoy your day!
  • Dude! Happy B-day! (zippercheck)
So far so good but I sense winds of change and mists of confusion settling in...
  • Happy Birthday to YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU! Wecome to the new Washingtonians!...Enjoy your day JaNae!!! Hi to the " Cuz Danster!"
  • Happy Birthday, Janae!
  • Happy Happy Birthday to you Janae. I miss all your songs for birthdays, Miss see you but am glad that we are on FB together so I can see how happy you are. Miss you Have a super fantastic day.
  • Happy Birthday JaNae!
  • Happy Birthday JaNae!
  • Have a happy birthday!
  • Happy Btrthday JaNae! You look sooooo happy. Have a great day.
  • have a great birthday!!
  • Happy birthday DAN--I think. ;-) Hope you are having a good day.
  • HaPpY BiRtHdAy to you ... put a GOLD star on your forehead...Enjoy your DAY!!!
  • Happy Birthday JaNae! Have a great day!
  • Happy Birthday!
Note: some were aware of the confusion and were generic in their birthday wishes, good for them! Also, my message saying the next day was DAN's birthday was still on my status, on the top of our profile page, where people had to go to write their message...

Here I try to correct the confusion...(Attempt #2)
  • Love you Dan! Happy Birthday!!!!
Looks like it worked...
  • ok, sorry happy birthday dan. it is hard to know whos birthday it is so have a great day!!!
  • happy birthday janae! hope you have a fabulous day!! :)
  • Happy Birthday!
Whoops that didn't work too well...let me try again: (Attempt #3)
  • Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear DAN Happy Birthday to you! Love you Hon!
  • Happy birthday cuz!
  • Happy birthday... hope you have a wonderful one..
  • Happy Birthday, Dan!
  • Happy Birthday Dan!
Looks like that did the trick! Amanda even put in her two cents to try and help the situation:
  • Dear Dad (stop).
Today is YOUR birthday, not JaNae's (stop).
I hope people get the hang of it soon (stop).
Otherwise JaNae will think YOU are supposed to get HER something (stop).
And that's cruel and unusual punishment on your birthday (stop).
    ...Love (stop).
    Amanda Marie
How can there be any confusion now?! I've clarified three times, Amanda's clarified, people are catching on, right? This next message was immediately FOLLOWING Amanda's:
  • Happy Birthday JaNae! I hope you're having a great one!
By now I am alone and laughing out loud at the whole situation (Dan's still at work). I can't help but laugh, it's too, too funny not to. I even call Dan and Amanda laughing at the whole situation to keep them in the loop.

The messages continue (and so does the confusion apparently):
  • Hope you have a super happy birthday!!!
  • Hope you have a wonderful Birthday Janae!
  • Happy birthday, JaNae! Hope it was a good one!
  • Happy Birthday! I still remember that lovely singing Elephant birthday card you sent...I send it often and think of you. " Happy Birthday song" just for you Janae! ;^)
  • Happy Birthday Sister Horrocks I hope you had a awesome birthday
  • Happy bday!
  • Happy Birthday!
  • i am not sure but isnt it Dans birthday today????? I am going to have to say yes. Hope you had a great day Dan (Yes, yes it is! Haven't the messages from Dan's wife and daughter clarified things yet?)
  • Happy B-day...no matter who's birthday it is ;-) In my world, anyone having a birthday means it is a day for a party! Wahoo! xoxoxoxo (Smart girl, just gave a generic birthday greeting regardless of who's day it was, way to play it safe!)
Thankfully I married a man with a good sense of humor. We just laughed at the misunderstandings that occurred, despite all attempts to keep confusion from happening. It still makes me smile and giggle rereading this and thinking about the whole thing.

Here was my message on our FB page a couple days later:
  • Thank you for all the birthday wishes. It was Dan's birthday and I think he had a great day. We chuckled at the confusion, sorry about that.
(You probably also noticed the different variations on my name as well...yeah, that's typed correctly on my profile page too!)
